if you know anything about me, you know i love listening to lorde.
also, i’m preeeetty sure i have some form of synesthesia that makes it possible for my brain to connect books/songs with colors, so if i’m not explaining what makes me connect a song with a book very well, just assume that i see the same colors both in the book and the song.
disclaimer! i already know that post will have some bad language because i will be quoting song lyrics, so i’m sorry about that. i usually try to avoid cursing, but in this case, some of the lyrics with bad language just really remind me of the books i’ve chosen.
01. Green Light
’cause honey i’ll come get my things, but i can’t let go / i’m waiting for it, that green light, i want it / oh, i wish i could get my things and just let go / i’m waiting for it, that green light, i want it. – green light, lorde
these lyrics in particular made me think of how Lara Jean writes letters to her previous love interests to let go of them. this isn’t my favorite comparison on this list by far. the song and book don’t work as well together as others on the list, but they still remind me of each other in some ways.
when it gets dark. – melodrama, lorde/ i / j /
these few lines are spot on with the mood of the book. the third and fourth lines that i quoted above remind me of the characters Camilla and Charles Macaulay. any other TSH and lorde fans out there who agree with me on this one??
03. Homemade Dynamite
a couple rebel top gun pilots / flying with nowhere to be…/ our rules, our dreams, we’re blind / blowing sh*t up with homemade d-d-d-dynamite / our friends, our drinks, we get inspired. – homemade dynamite, lorde
04. The Louvre
okay i know that you are not my type (still i fall) / i’m just the sucker who let you fill her mind (but what about love?) / nothing wrong with it, supernatural / just move in close to me, closer, you’ll feel it coasting. – the louvre, lorde
05. Liability + Liability (Reprise)
i think this choice goes back to the whole synesthesia idea. these two songs have the same colors in them, so they automatically connect in my head.
06. Hard Feelings / Loveless
07. Sober II (Melodrama)
all the glamour and the trauma / and the f**king melodrama ohh, oh … they’ll talk about us, all the lovers / how we kissed and killed each other – sober ii (melodrama), lorde
08. Writer in the Dark
break the news, you’re walking out / to be a good man for someone else/ sorry I was never good like you / stood on my chest and kept me down / hated hearing my name on the lips of a crowd / did my best to exist just for you – writer in the dark, lorde
